Surprise Cave (Sung Sot Island)
Surprise Cave is a tourist attraction in Halong Bay. Its specific address is located in the west of Beibu Gulf, 150 kilometers away from Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam. In 1994, UNESCO listed Halong Bay as a natural heritage in the World Heritage List.
Surprise Cave is one of the largest and most beautiful caves in Halong Bay, about 15 kilometers away from the tourist pier. It covers an area of about 10,000 square meters, with three rooms: outer, middle and inner. The countless small caves on the top of the cave are the most amazing thing about the Grotte desupries. In the Halong Bay tourism introduction book published in 1938, the French named the cave "Grottedesupries" (Grottedesupries).
The entrance of Surprise Cave is very ordinary, but once you enter the cave, you will understand why it is called Surprise Cave: there are countless small nests on the top of the cave. After entering the cave, visitors feel as if they are walking under a cloud-covered sky.
The Surprise Cave is located in the World Heritage Site of Halong Bay, inside Ba Hon Island. This is one of the most beautiful large caves in Halong Bay. There are many strange-shaped stones in the cave that combine to create different beautiful scenes. On the way to Surprise Cave, there are some tall trees on both sides, and stairs lead to the entrance of the cave. Visitors will experience the taste of mountain climbing and the feeling of walking to heaven.
The Surprise Cave is divided into two main parts. The front part is as wide as an opera house. The ceiling of the cave is covered with a layer of "velvet" giving a smooth feeling, and the countless "chandeliers" are shining stalactites. Stone Buddha statues, stone statues, seals, raspberries, flowers, everything seems to shuttle between the world of reality and dreams. After being amazed by the beauty of the front part, move on to the back part. After passing a section of the road, you will suddenly realize that the latter part is completely different in beauty and can accommodate thousands of people. The further you enter, the more you discover different scenes such as stalactites, banyan branches and leaves, sea bears, and dinosaurs. When you reach the highest point in the cave, you will be constantly surprised by the sight of the "Royal Garden", a charming landscape with clear lake water, prosperous trees, and singing birds. Monkeys often come here in groups to look for fruits to make the place lively.
The Surprise Cave is located in the center of Halong Bay (TI TOP Beach – BO NAU Cave – MI CONG Cave – LUON Cave – SUNG SOT Cave). It is named “Grotte des surprises” (the cave full of surprises) by the French.
Climb up 50 steep stone steps from the pier and then climb down about 20 stone steps to reach the entrance of the cave, which is about 25 meters high. The cave covers an area of approximately 10,000 square meters and contains thousands of stalagmites and stalactites. In the cave, there is an asphalt road about 500 meters long leading directly to the exit. On both sides of the aisle are two rows of low street lights for decoration and lighting.
Halong Bay – Surprise Cave In Surprise Cave, the roof of the cave is 30 meters high and looks as spectacular as the roof of the Opera House. This is a typical karst cave with high scientific research value.
