Construction of Hanoi Cathedral started in 1884 and was completed on Christmas Day 1887. This was one of the first Western construction projects built in Hanoi. After the ups and downs of historical events, Hanoi Cathedral is regarded as a witness of the new look of the capital Hanoi "through three centuries." To this day, it is not only the Catholic center of Hanoi and surrounding areas, but also a must-visit destination for domestic and foreign tourists who come to visit Thang Long, a thousand-year-old document in Hanoi.

Hanoi Cathedral, also known as St. Joseph's Cathedral, is the cathedral of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Hanoi. Its church was built in the style of Notre Dame de Paris in accordance with the Gothic architectural style popular in the 12th century and the Renaissance period, with cornices and corners, majestic and majestic. The church uses clinker and cardboard as the main building materials. It is 64.5 meters long and 20.5 meters wide. It has two bell towers 31.5 meters high and a stone cross on the vault.

The appearance of Hanoi Cathedral is moss-colored, giving people an ancient and solemn feeling. After passing the main entrance, the interior decoration is luxurious and exquisite, still retaining its original appearance and grandeur.

The walls on both sides of the church are inlaid with stained glass paintings. The most special thing is that the interior of the temple is decorated with intricately carved vermilion lacquer and gold patterns in accordance with the traditional folk art style. The nave has a statue of Jesus more than 2 meters high.

The church has four small bells and one large bell, and a large clock hangs in front. Inside the chapel are 30 rows of brown wooden benches arranged neatly. Services are held twice on weekdays and seven times on Sundays.

In addition, near the church, tourists can taste Hanoi's specialty - lemon tea, cheese skewers, barbecue and other Hanoi snacks. Sitting on the open-air balcony of a cafe next to the cathedral, quietly sipping ice tea, overlooking the crowds gathered around the church, and listening to the sacred music coming from the church, my heart became extremely peaceful and refreshing. It has become a favorite place for young people and is also the place chosen by many couples to take wedding photos. (Source: Vietnam Pictorial)
