Hung King Festival 2024: The sedan-carrying ceremony at Hung King Temple is lively
The 2024 Hung King Festival Organizing Committee held a sedan-carrying ceremony for the Hung Kings at the Hung King Historical Relics Area in Viet Chi City, Phu Tho Province on April 15 (the seventh day of the third lunar month) to express gratitude to the Hung Kings and the founding heroes.
This is one of the activities to promote the Hung King worship belief that has been included in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. It is also a traditional ceremony that has been protected and passed down for thousands of years.
At 7:30 on the 15th, ancestral temples were lifted from ancestral halls and temples in seven villages and towns surrounding the heritage area (Xionglu, Jinde, Zhouhua and other townships in Yuechi City and Yunfufang; Xianjian Township and Xiongshan Town in Lincao County). The arriving sedan chairs gathered at the ceremony center of the Hung King Historical Relics Area.
The ceremony of carrying the sedan chair to the Hung King reproduces the activity of combining the culture and belief forms of the residents of the ancestral land with the belief of worshiping ancestors. The ceremony also creates the richness and attraction of folk cultural activities during ancestor worship, and greatly enhances the pride in national history and cultural traditions.
Participating teams that carry the sedan include the lion dance team, the consul and temple flag teams, and the gong and drum team. Offerings include fruits, rice dumplings, glutinous rice cakes and local specialties.
It attracts many local residents and tourists from all over to participate, making the atmosphere even more lively. (over)
