30/04/2024

2023 brings new hope for the global travel industry as the world reopens after COVID-19. This year, the number of tourists exceeded 1.5 billion, of which tourists for sightseeing, vacation and entertainment purposes accounted for more than half of the total international tourists.

1. The journey of survival

Setting up a tent, cooking over a campfire and following a compass will be key travel trends in 2023. This year, the experience of isolation without utilities, electricity and social media has never been more popular. 44% said they wanted to experience basic living conditions and escape reality.

2. Travel “out of the safe zone”

In 2023, travelers will be looking for unique, surprising and enjoyable vacations rather than resort services. 47% of tourists want to try the world's strangest foods, and 38% want to learn about the oldest heritage. 28% want to buy a travel ticket and instinctively go anywhere.

3. Travel alone

The trend toward solo travel is expected to continue to grow stronger. According to Booking.com, 29% of Vietnamese tourists will plan to travel "solo" to actively and freely explore new lands and experience many interesting experiences.

4. Green travel

According to the Vietnam report, nearly 94% of tourists expressed their willingness to pay more for environmentally friendly tourism services. They embrace transportation with lower emissions, minimize fast food, plastic cups, plastic bottles, and prioritize the use of recycled materials.

5. A journey of healing

The pressure of post-COVID-19 lifestyle changes, the impact of climate change... this has many travelers continuing to seek healing travel experiences in 2023. A Booking.com survey found that nearly 44% of travelers want to book meditation and mindfulness travel, a spiritual and wellness combination.

6. Combine travel with remote work

The increasing demand for workspace relocation and innovation is driving the desire to “move” the workplace away from the office space where a large portion of the workforce is located. "Workation" - Combining work and vacation will be a trend in office travel.

7. Local Discovery Tour

Vietnam Report’s survey shows that tourists view community tourism as part of promoting sustainable tourism development. Visitors can get an authentic experience in a local’s home, experience culture, and experience unique cuisine while immersing themselves in local life.
