The Lunar New Year has a special meaning for every Vietnamese, bringing with it the noble humanistic values and philosophies created, cultivated, preserved and passed down from generation to generation by our ancestors. In today's program, you and your friends will learn about the significance of the traditional Spring Festival and folk cultural activities with us, and gain a deeper understanding of the unique cultural characteristics of this nation.
The lunar calendar is a calendar developed by ancient people based on the "lunar moon", so the Gregorian New Year always comes earlier than the Spring Festival. This festival always falls between early January and mid-February every year.
In order to welcome the Spring Festival, every household is busy cleaning and decorating the house, and then on the 23rd day of the twelfth lunar month, preparing a table to bid farewell to the Stove King and ascend to heaven to report the family's merits and demerits of the year to the Jade Emperor.
Vietnamese people always believe that the Spring Festival is the beginning of a new year, a festival to bid farewell to the old year and welcome days of confidence and optimism. From the 23rd to the 30th of the twelfth lunar month, the whole family gathers together to sweep the tombs and prepare tributes to welcome the ancestors back to celebrate the New Year with their descendants.
Peach blossoms and plum blossoms are two representative flowers that are indispensable for welcoming the Spring Festival. In addition to these two kinds of flowers, it seems that every household also bought other flowers to decorate and place on the altar table. Among the flowers used to place on the altar table include marigolds, chrysanthemums, tuberose, gladiolus, etc.; while the flowers used for decoration include roses, daffodils, dahlias, violets and other colorful flowers.
According to custom, starting from the handover of the old and new years, the first person to come to the host's house to pay New Year greetings is called the "happy new year" person. Since people who are happy in the opposite year greatly affect the luck of the family head in the new year, everyone attaches great importance to the zodiac signs that are happy in the new year.
Every country and every nation has its own customs and habits. For every Vietnamese, the Spring Festival is an important event rich in cultural characteristics.
