Da Nang City History
– In 1306, Princess Xuanzhen married Emperor Zhimun (the 34th emperor of the Champa Kingdom). This historical marriage has given Dai Viet a vast territory: Shunzhou and Huazhou.
– After Le Thanh Tong’s great expedition (1470), the Dai Viet frontier expanded to Mui Nay (now Phu Yen and Khanh Hoa provinces) and began to develop the territory.
– In the mid-16th century, Hoi An was already a commercial port with very busy trading activities. Da Nang was just a front port, responsible for transshipment of goods and ship repairs.
– In the early 18th century, European shipbuilding technology developed rapidly and entered Da Nang Bay. Da Nang City became a new trading center in southern Vietnam and the western world.
– In 1858, the French-Spanish coalition launched an artillery attack on Da Nang Bay.
– In 1889, Dong Yang fully announced the establishment of Tourane City (Da Nang), which belongs to Quang Nam Province and was selected as a second-level city.
– In 1945, the August Revolution was successful, and the city’s name was changed to Thai Phuan (the name of a patriot)
– In March 1965, the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps landed in Da Nang and built Da Nang into a large military base. The opening of the Vietnam War.
– At 14:00 on March 29, 1975, Da Nang City was completely liberated.
– On August 30, 1977, the government meeting announced 228-CP that it was agreed to merge the first, second and third counties belonging to Quang Nam-Da Nang Province into an administrative unit named Da Nang City.
– On January 1, 1997, Da Nang was separated from Quang Nam and Da Nang became a central municipality.
